Letter A Collage Activity
Alphabet adventure awaits! This Letter A collage helps little ones repeatedly hear the sound A makes and works fine motor muscles, too!

Teaching Letters to Preschoolers
When it comes to teaching letters to little ones, you can take a few different approaches. Some start with A, and others start with the most common letters, like M or S.
No matter how you teach letters to your little one, one thing is sure.
Repetition is KEY!
The more your little one sees the letter and hears the sound we use for it, the more likely it is to stick in their brains.
That’s why making a letter A collage is a perfect activity to solidify learning about the letter A. The A sound will be repeated frequently to decide if the chosen item starts with the letter A. It’s a beautiful activity to work fine motor muscles, too.
Of course, this letter A collage can be completed with different letters. 😉

Items Needed
*magazine or grocery store flyer
*scissors
*glue
*cardstock paper, construction paper, or poster board

How to Make a Letter A Collage
1. Flip through the magazine or flyer to make sure there are items that the preschooler can identify as starting with the letter A.
You may need to get a bit creative, depending on your magazine.
We used athlete, animals (cow), autumn, American (flag), amphibian, adventure (map), ape, address, apple, and anglerfish. Some were a biiiiittt of a stretch, but after talking about them, the preschooler decided they worked! 😉
2. Talk with your little one about what sounds we use for the letter A. Come up with some words that start with the letter A.
Conveniently use items that are in the flyer/magazine in your examples.
If there was an athlete in your magazine, use the word athlete as an example when discussing things that start with the letter A.

3. Flip through the magazine/flyer together.
4. As your little one points to a thing, exaggerate the beginning sound of the items they point to so they can hear if it starts with an a.
For example, I’d say “aaaaaaaaapple” and really stretch out that “a” sound at the beginning.
5. Once an item that starts with A is found, cut it out.
6. Continue to look through the magazine or flyer to find more items that start with the letter A.
7. Create a letter A collage by gluing the cut-out items onto cardstock, construction paper, or a poster board.
8. Optional: Add the words “Letter A Collage” to the top or middle of the page.
