Take off on a learning journey with these Germany activities. There are over ten different fun activities for your little ones.
Things to Know about Germany
Here are a few things to share with your preschoolers about Germany. Be ready; you know they will be (rightfully) full of questions about this new-to-them country.
Germany is in Europe and the money they use is called a Euro. They have a flag with three equal-sized stripes: black, red, and gold.
Germany has mountains and rivers. It also has a place called the Black Forest, where many animals risk becoming extinct.
Some animals found in Germany are foxes, minks, owls, European badgers, bears, and wild cats. Fire salamanders, ibex, and marmots are also found.

Geography Activities
Activity 1: Play Dough Germany Map
Print out an outline of Germany. Have your little ones roll a play dough snake and trace the perimeter of Germany. Let them fill in the inside with more play dough.
Activity 2: Take a Tour
Take a virtual tour of Germany. There are many awe-inspiring sights to see. You can utilize Google Earth or look online (like YouTube) for tours.
Culture Activities
Activity 1: Pom Pom Flag
Create a flag for Germany out of pom poms. You will need black, red, and yellow (gold) pom poms, paper, and glue. Black pom poms go horizontally on top, then red in the middle, and yellow (gold) on the bottom).

Activity 2: Play Soccer
Soccer (known as football) is a very popular sport in Germany. Grab your soccer ball and let your little ones enjoy playing a game they are already familiar with.
This is great because it shows similarities between Germany and your little ones.
Math Activities
Activity 1: Learn to Count in German
Teach your little ones how to count to ten in German. It will be great memory work for them and fun to hear the difference between English and German numbers.
Try saying a number and having your little one say it in German. You can also try numbering index cards from 1 to 10. Have your little ones flip over a card and say that number in German.
Activity 2: Pretzel Patterns
Using a few different-shaped pretzels (rods, squares, regular pretzel shape), have your preschoolers make patterns or copy your patterns with the different-shaped pretzels.
How are pretzels related to Germany? Southern Germany is the birthplace of soft pretzels!
Language Arts Activities
Activity 1: Read the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales
The Brothers Grimm were two folklorists who took many German folktales and wrote them down so they wouldn’t be forgotten.
Activity 2: Write Germany with Stickers
Write the word ‘Germany’ using large letters in the middle of a sheet of printer paper. Talk about the letters your little ones see, and then have them use small stickers (like those little stars or circles) to trace the letters.
Don’t have stickers? Try using a Q tip dipped in paint and put dots to form the letters to spell Germany.
Music Activities
Activity 1: Listen to Classical Music
We had to include listening to classical music in the Germany activities. Many incredible musicians were born in Germany, after all!
Activity 2: Learn a German Nursery Rhyme Song
Learning nursery rhymes is not only great for preschoolers’ memory, but it also does amazing things for their brains.
If your little ones know the patty cake nursery rhyme in English, try having them say the German version, ‘Backe, backe, kuchen.’ This version also has English subtitles.
Cooking Activities
Activity 1: Soft Pretzels
Are you surprised by this Germany activities choice?! Germany is the birthplace of soft pretzels, so it is only fitting that you try to make soft pretzels.
Making pretzels is a beautiful addition to the Germany activities because it is a GREAT fine motor activity and it’s tasty!
Activity 2: Create a German Breakfast
Germany tends to have less breakfast-y foods than the United States. There are usually cured meats, bread, cheese, and jams. They do have eggs, coffee, and orange juice, too.
If you want to bake together (not just put things together), try making the bread, rolls, or biscuits together. Don’t forget to make some eggs (and coffee).
