Ways to Use March Themes for Preschool

Preschool March themes are a great way to help you plan.

Once you choose what March themes for preschool you want to use, you can pinpoint ideas for books, crafts, and activities.

These themes can be woven into dramatic play centers, through science tables, or in morning baskets.

Your setup and goals for each theme will help you to decide how each theme is used.

Some may put the science topics out and let their little ones explore them independently.

Others may want to read stories and watch videos about the topics first.

The right way to use the preschool March themes is to use them in a way that works best for you and your little ones.

The Best Preschool March Themes

Robots

With how far AI is coming and how computerized certain aspects of your life are, littles must learn about robots.

Do they need to know all the ins and outs? Probably not.

Little can play with many apps and coding toys to show how robots work.

Scratch Jr. is a great (FREE) app that does just that. There is even a PBS Kids version with some of the characters from PBS Kids shows.

Some may get scared by the idea of things moving and doing things by themselves.

This may be a great time to show your littles that robots need to be coded (and given instructions from humans) as to what to do.

Magnets

Cause and effect relationships are discovered when littles can experiment with magnets.

They will be able to see that magic isn’t part of how magnets work, even if it seems like it at first.

Gather some items and let your little ones get to work figuring out how magnets work.

Have them figure out if the items are magnetic or not.

You may even talk about how doctors (and vets) use magnets.

This may be one of the preschool March themes that gets played with repeatedly, even after the week ends.

Dental Health

March 20th is World Oral Health Day.

What a great time to empower your little ones with dental health!

Brushing and flossing are both essential to teaching even the littlest learners.

What a practical March theme for a preschool topic!

Grab a Duplox block and put some play dough between the prongs (is that what those things are called that stick up?).

Arm your little one with some yarn or string and have him get to work flossing the play dough out.

Getting comfortable with a toothbrush is also important.

Having your little one use a toothbrush to scrub toys clean will help them get used to the feel of the brush in their hand and how much pressure to use to clean the items.

Butterflies (and Spring)

With the beginning of spring in March, this is the perfect time to talk about all the new life that will be around.

Explore the life cycle of butterflies and learn about the astonishing journey Monarch butterflies make each year.

You can talk about what things butterflies (and pollinators) need and what your preschooler can do to help these critical creatures.

Europe

Starting in January, a new continent is on the monthly theme lists.

This month is Europe.

Make learning about new continents a whole sensory experience.

Bring different music, foods, and items for which the continent (or countries part of the continent) is known.

You may want to show different landmarks and animals from Europe, too.

Don’t forget to show your little ones where Europe is on the globe.

St. Patrick’s Day

Whether you want to bring in the idea of leprechauns, St. Patrick’s Day can still be fun to celebrate.

Make leprechaun hats, build a leprechaun trap, or learn about Ireland; it will be a fun time.

Rainbows and the color green are often associated with St. Patrick’s Day, so those are also different topics you can extend throughout this topic on the preschool March themes list.
