Name Snowmen
Learning to spell your name has never been SNOW much fun. This name snowman makes an excellent spelling activity craft for your preschooler.
Why Make a Name Snowman
Letter and Name Recognition
Each snowball for the name snowman has a different letter on it. This helps to reinforce letter recognition. As the letters are put together, they will form your little one’s name to reinforce all the letters working together to make their name.
Sense of Accomplishment
After working hard on the name snowman, preschoolers will feel a sense of accomplishment that they were able to build a whole snowman by themselves!
Fine Motor Skills
Fine motor skills come into play when picking up tiny pieces of paper and gluing them into place. If your little one is up for it, they could also use their fine motor skills to cut out the snowballs and to write the letters.
Sequencing and Order
To say their name, little ones must put the snowballs in order. This is a great time to talk about how the order in which we do things matters. Although all the letters of their name may be there, it doesn’t spell their name if they are in a different order.

Items Needed
*cardstock or printer paper
*scissors
*construction paper
*glue
*marker
*something small and circular to trace (not needed, but helpful)
*pencil
How to Make a Name Snowman
1. Find something small and circular to trace. Trace circles on a white sheet of cardstock/printer paper. You will need one more circle than letters in your little one’s name.
If they have five letters in their name, then you will need six circles.
2. Cut out the small circles. If your little one is interested, let them cut them out! It will make the project more their own (and save your hand from hurting).😂
3. Write one letter from your little one’s name on each snowball. If your little one has duplicate letters, there will be duplicate snowballs with that letter on it. For example, the name Molly would have two snowballs with the letter L.
If your little one is interested, let them trace the letters you wrote lightly (in pencil) on each snowball with a marker.
4. Place a blank sheet of colored paper vertically (long sides are on the right and left).
5. Build the name snowman by putting the first letter of the name near the top of the sheet. Add the snowball with the second letter in the name directly under the first one. Continue until the whole name snowman is built.
6. Add the blank snowball to the top of the snowman.
7. Glue the snowballs down on the blank sheet of construction paper. You may need to slide the snowballs down to get them to fit.
Optional: To build a name snowman repeatedly, don’t glue the snowballs down. Move on to decorating. Once your little one is done making the snowman, collect all the pieces and put them into a bag to do again another day.
8. Decorate the name snowman by adding a hat, scarf, nose, and arms. Use a marker to add eyes and a smile.
Build a Name Snowman
The great thing about this name snowman activity is that it can be done again and again. Do the craft like usual, but don’t glue anything down! Let your little one enjoy building (and rebuilding) their name snowman.
