Beaded Snowflakes Craft
Turn any space into a winter wonderland with these cute beaded snowflakes. Beads, chenille stems, and imagination are all it takes.
Why Make Beaded Snowflakes
Fine Motor Skills
Strengthening those tiny hand muscles is an important part of a preschooler’s development so they can hold a pencil and write (among other things).
Threading tiny beads onto a chenille stem requires great strength, but it is a fun, new fine motor activity for little ones.
Pattern Work
What better way to practice pattern skills than with beads while making a decoration?! Pattern work can be tedious, but make it more fun by making beaded snowflakes!
Creativity
Let your little one’s creativity run wild with the colors they choose to use on their beaded snowflakes. Each one will be unique, just like a real snowflake.

Concentration and Focus
Threading six different chenille stems takes lots of work and concentration. By letting your little one bead a snowflake, they can work on increasing their concentration and focus.
Sense of Accomplishment
Completing their snowflake will give your preschoolers pride and boost their confidence in their abilities. When they give their beaded snowflakes to Grandpa or Auntie, they can share their accomplishments with loved ones.
Homemade Decorations
Once the beaded snowflakes are complete, add some string and hang them from the cabinet handle, dangle them from the fan, or put them on a wreath or other holiday decorations (like a Christmas tree).
If you don’t secure the last beads on these beaded snowflakes, they can be completed, taken apart, and completed again.
Items Needed
*pony beads
*chenille stems (1.5 per snowflake– how to split explained below)
*scissors
How to Make Beaded Snowflakes
1. Grab the chenille stems and fold them in half. Take scissors and cut along the fold. You should now have chenille stems half the size.
2. Place one chenille stem horizontally. Add another chenille stem vertically (up and down) on top of the first chenille stem.
3. Take the chenille stem on the right and twist it over so it is now on the left. Take the left chenille stem and twist it so it is now on the right.
The chenille stems should be twisted together and should stay in place.
4. Add another small chenille stem the same way, so the snowflake has six arms now.
5. Encourage your preschooler to add beads to the chenille stems to make a beaded snowflake. They can choose to use all one color, make a pattern, or be completely random.
6. Once the arms are nearly full of beads, fold the end over and slide it into the second bead from the end. This will help lock the beads into place. If tugged on, it will pull out.
7. Hang the beaded snowflakes up for everyone to see!
