Letter Y Craft: Yak Activity
Learn about the yak and have fun creating your own letter Y craft yak. The craft takes seconds to prepare, and it is adorable when completed.
What is a Yak?
We hear about yaks when we need an animal for a letter Y craft, but what is a yak?
Yaks are long-haired cattle from the Himalayan region of South Asia.
Although yaks and cows are not the same, they do have much in common.
Both male and female yaks have long curved horns.
Wild yaks are endangered.
Something interesting about yaks is that they have fewer sweat glands, so they conserve more body heat.
Talk about a great adaptation to living in cold environments!
Another interesting thing is that they require half as much food as cows because they efficiently convert food into energy.

How to Make a Letter Y Craft
1. Print out the printable letter Y craft.
2. Color in the yak craft sheet and trace the word ‘yak.’ The top parts of the Y should be kept white (if possible) to be used as horns.
You may want to draw a line across the letter Y where the ‘arms’ of the Y meet the middle line. Have your little one color below the line.
3. Use the dotted lines as a guide to cut out all of the elements on the sheet. Trim off the excess paper around the word ‘yak.’
4. Grab the blank sheet of paper and turn it so the long sides go up and down.
5. Find the word ‘yak’ and glue it to the very bottom of the page.
6. Glue the letter Y to the middle of the page.
7. Find the yak craft face and glue it to the middle of the Y, making sure the arms of the Y are showing and look like horns.
8. Add the eyes to the yak face.
9. Hang up the letter Y craft to enjoy.
